ENR Southeast’s annual competition to recognize the “best” construction and design efforts in the region has resulted in this 16th group of Best Projects award winners listed below.
This year, two separate, independent judging panels made up of industry representatives collectively reviewed and discussed 90 projects located throughout the Southeast region of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Puerto Rico. Projects were evaluated on the project team’s ability to overcome challenges, as well as the project’s construction and design quality, safety record; and contribution to the industry and community.
The main Best Projects judging process involves two steps. First, judges are given a roughly two-week period to review and score entries. Next, judges convene to discuss their reviews. Using the collective scores as a starting point for discussion, judges then come to unanimous consensus on all awards, ranging from the Best Project in category to the Award of Merit honorees. In short, ENR works to ensure that each “Best Project” honoree, no matter the award level, is truly deserving of this industry recognition.
Another task of the judging panels is to nominate entries for the overall Project of the Year award, with Best-in-category winners eligible for this honor. This year, the panels nominated a total of five projects for this honor, which is still to be determined via a second round of review. ENR Southeast will report further on these Project of the Year nominees soon.
The winners listed below will be profiled in depth in the November issue of ENR Southeast, and further celebrated at our annual Best Projects Awards Luncheon, to be held Nov. 15 in Orlando. As part of this event, ENR Southeast will also honor this year’s Southeast Owner of the Year, Design Firm of the Year, Contractor of the Year and Specialty Contractor of the Year, as well as the 2017 Legacy Award winners.
