Motor City Electric Co. has stayed near the top of ENR Midwest's Top Specialty Contractors list by delivering the complex electrical designs of data centers, wind farms and other projects that require the latest electrical technology expertise. That can-do attitude has helped MCE become ENR Midwest's 2021 Specialty Contractor of the Year.

MCE gained its reputation for being able to deliver complicated power systems for everything from data centers to clean energy projects such as the Gratiot Wind Farm in Middleton, Mich. With designers IBI Group and Integrated Design Systems and contractor Granger Construction, MCE was the design-build electrical contractor on Michigan's first data center project to receive the Uptime Institute’s Tier III Certification for design and construction, a project where design was completed in just 12 weeks and construction in just over a year.

MCE increased its revenue from $325 million in 2019 to $331.5 million in 2020, despite the complications that came with a COVID-19 year and losing a month on most projects while its home state of Michigan paused construction during the early days of the pandemic. MCE ranked in the top five of our ENR Midwest's Top Specialty contractors for the fourth consecutive year.

MCE will be featured in ENR Midwest's September issue and the full list of our top specialty contractors will be published. Congratulations, Motor City Electric!
