A man is in custody after he allegedly attempted to run firefighters over with a Bobcat skid steer Thursday in Denton, N.C.

According to a press release, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to N.C. 49 S. and Gravel Hill Road, Denton.

A firefighter with the New Hope Fire Department told deputies that while they were on scene assisting the N.C. State Highway Patrol with an accident, a man ran out of a business across the street, entered a skid steer and began driving it towards the fire truck.

The suspect drove around the front of the fire truck, then turned the skid steer and started driving it alongside the truck, almost hitting it.

As he drove the skid steer along the side of the fire truck, he was chasing a firefighter.

The firefighter was able to get away from the skid steer when he rounded the corner of the fire truck, got inside the truck and drove away.
