Custom Equipment Partnership Helps Build Industry Workforce

June 21, 2019

Custom Equipment has partnered with GPS Education Partners, allowing the company to build industry talent and workforces using a youth apprenticeship model designed by GPSEd. According to a press release, the apprenticeship model will match student workers with technical careers and expose them to careers in manufacturing.

Participating students will gain career exposure and experience through rotations at the company’s West Bend, Wisconsin. facility, working as  general laborers. This allows students to explore different work environments, business cultures, and take on different roles and responsibilities while earning their high school diploma.

Students will also be able to demonstrate those skills in their apprenticeship placement, as well as in the community by participating in service-learning projects.

“The manufacturing industry is facing a growing skills gap driven by an aging workforce, the rising employability gap, and youths who are just not aware of careers in the industry,” Terry Dolan, Custom Equipment president and CEO, said. “Partnering with GPS Education Partners will help accelerate manufacturing careers among the young student population by providing a future workforce to help fill the industry’s needs.”
