Wisconsin Alexander Co. Inc., a developer, is planning to convert the former F. Mayer Boot and Shoe Co. building, now known as the Milwaukee Fortress building, into a mixed-use project. Erected in 1892, the six-story, 194,000-sq-ft brick building in the Brewers Hill neighborhood will be converted into 132 apartments and 25,000 sq ft of office space.
