The International Code Council has issued a call for participants to serve on two new development committees for the 2021 update of its model International Energy Conservation Code. The Residential Energy Code and Commercial Energy Code consensus committees will each have about 30 members.

The new standards-based process, which is somewhat controversial, backed by homebuilders, energy interests and manufacturers, will bring more stakeholders into the process, but government regulators' influence will be reduced, according to the council.

Committee members will represent manufacturers, builders, standards promulgators/testing laboratories, users, utilities, consumers, public segments, government regulators and insurance. Additionally, members are intended to represent a diverse array of experience in building types and energy efficiency strategies, as well as racial, gender and socio-economic diversity.
