Situated in the center of campus, the three-story, 50,000-sq-ft building houses classrooms, instructional and research labs, simulation and training rooms, collaboration and community spaces, and faculty offices. At its core is the cybersecurity range, or CSR, an immersive learning space that provides students with a realistic stage for collaboration and problem-solving in a high pressure environment. The CSR is equipped with a 40-ft LED video screen, audiovisual theatrics and unlimited virtual connectivity. The CSR’s relatively tight footprint required multiple contractors, and design consultants were required to coordinate their highly customized components with clocklike precision. The slab-on-grade floor was cast with raked tiers and integral ramped isles on a curved array. These tiers were coordinated with millwork and room acoustics to provide optimal viewing and listening experiences. Lighting, microphones, speakers, cameras and room control sensors were coordinated into the ceiling cloud system. Jobsite fencing protected students and faculty during construction, while high-pressure water testing and electrical shutdowns and tie-ins were conducted during off-hours as a precaution.
