While unused home features can create an inconvenient waste of space in existing homes, many homeowners also find that their current living spaces could benefit from added favorable and functional amenities. A more practical and efficient kitchen space is one of the most desired renovations among homeowners, and according to Housing Design Matters, adding a separate messy kitchen or creating more space between the island and surrounding prep areas can make the kitchen less crowded and more functional.

Adding a dedicated pet space can prevent muddy messes from entering into the home while also creating a necessary storage area for food, toys, and litter. The laundry room is perhaps one of the most overlooked spaces in the entire house, but simple changes and additions can make it a more productive area and less of an unused bonus room.

And of course, storage was on everyone’s mind. Can’t have enough – especially in the kitchen. Even those with walk-in pantries wanted larger ones.

Having drawn them in many new plans – it makes even the nicest home obsolete without them. In an older home, this can be excused. However, there is simply no excuse to be designing and building outdated brand new homes.
