For the first time in the ENR New England Best Projects competition, a sustainability expert has selected ENR New England's 2021 Best Projects sustainability award winners.

The Excellence in Sustainability winner, along with the Sustainability Award of Merit winners, will be honored as part of the Best Projects 2021 awards event on Nov. 19. For more information on the event visit: https://www.enr.com/enr-best-projects-awards/boston

All of the Best Project winners and Award of Merit winners will be honored at the event and profiled more in depth in the November issue of ENR New England.

For the sustainability award, our expert judged the projects based on their sustainability information, which includes the project's overall sustainability strategy, choice of materials, energy savings, etc., as described in an essay question. While major green designations like LEED and WELL are preferable, they are not absolutely critical.

Our judge also considered how well the project team went above and beyond baseline industry requirements on the submitted project. Entries that clearly identify the strategies that led to excellent sustainability results were scored higher than more general responses.

This year's sustainability winners are:

Excellence in Sustainability Best Project

Finch Cambridge

Submitted by NEI General Contracting

Excellence in Sustainability Award of Merit

Colby College, Harold Alfond Athletics and Recreation Center

Submitted by Consigli Construction Co. Inc.
