SARASOTA, FLA.— If you are going to meet up for the first time in person after a two-year hiatus, there is arguably no better place than Sarasota in the inviting Florida sunshine to do so. In fact, the last QSC Power Meeting was held in San Diego in 2020, right at the start of the COVID pandemic. “The QSC Community was rocked as so much of the activity that our members enjoy is not only our events, but our in-person coaching,” says Dave Chic, program director, QSC and CCA. “Our folks love to be together!”
From the Beginning
Quality Service Contractors (QSC) was formed by a group of passionate PHCC service and repair contractors. Each of them discovered that they had a desire to develop, implement, monitor and modify as needed, service and repair industry best practices. They put the roots of QSC together by collaborating with and learning from each other. Even though they may have been competitors, they did this all for the betterment of their stakeholders and the industry. From there, the QSC Community was born. “It is still going strong 25 years later supporting the service and repair industry and promoting our mission statement: ‘QSC provides a welcoming community that influences best practices, superior growth and profitability for trades contractors and industry partners,’” says Chic.
Power in Inclusivity, Motivation
Keynote Josh Bleill talked openly and honestly about overcoming adversity. During a tour of duty in Iraq with the United States Marine Corps, Bleill was severely injured, resulting in the loss of both of his legs. He shared his vision and inspiration focusing on how we can all overcome the challenges that are a part of our everyday lives.
Piggybacking off those two major concerns, the QSC Power Meeting also focused on the importance of collaboration and how this can help people overcome life’s challenges. An additional breakout session, presented by Noelle Mykolenko, CEO, Trusted Advisor Associates, focused on re-establishing trust in the face of so much change. Mykolenko gave tips and direction to re-gaining the trust of those in our lives who, during trying times, found trust to have been strained, questioned or in some cases totally compromised.
Networking and More
But the Power Meeting wasn’t all business. QSC super-charged its networking and team-building activities by kicking off the event with a sand sculpting contest on the beach. Since the contest theme was “Under the Sea,” most participants created fish, mermaids or other sea creatures while the winning team sculpted a wrecked fighter plane. “The sand sculpting competition was a phenomenal collaborative experience and activities of this type will be done again in the future. Our attendees loved it,” says Chic. Attendees also were awed by master illusionist Rod Robison and they enjoyed musical entertainment provided by the Prairie Surfers, a band comprised of QSC members during the event’s closing reception.
Speaking of the future, the QSC is working on plans to hold next year’s Power Meeting in Lexington, Ky.
The QSC Advantage
The other biggest immediate benefit is access to thoughts, ideas, input and communications within the QSC Community. Via the QList, a discussion group specifically for QSC members, peer-to-peer communications are encouraged. Members often discuss new ideas, solutions, best practices and the latest news within the industry. “Many great ideas are exchanged through use of this valuable member benefit mode of communication,” says Chic.
The only requirement for membership in the QSC Community is PHCC membership. After joining PHCC at the local and/or state level, then becoming part of the PHCC membership, interested contractors may submit an application for QSC community membership.
