In January, M.F. DiMartino captured OHLA USA crews pouring concrete for center median retaining walls on the I-5 North Capacity Enhancements Project, which stretches for 17 miles through the city of Santa Clarita, Calif. The project includes the addition of one HOV lane in each direction and other improvements. To capture the shot, DiMartino found a higher vantage point that allowed her to include the length of the construction area. “It took several tries to get just the right shot as the wind whipped through the area and made it somewhat tough to keep the camera steady,” she says. DiMartino used a Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 lens to capture the image. The low aperture setting “helped separate the workers from the surroundings and bring the focus on their task,” she explains.
