GEORGIA Tribridge Residential is planning to redevelop a 4.4-acre portion of the Goat Farms Art Center in Atlanta. The first phase will include a mixed-use building containing 210 apartments, totaling 212,000 sq ft, and 25,000 sq ft of space for the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia. There will also be a 125-room hotel and 80,000 sq ft of artist workspaces, entrepreneurial studios and fabrication spaces, an 8,000-sq-ft pool deck and 322 parking spaces. NEW MEXICO Bright Green Corp. is planning to build a cannabis manufacturing and research facility in Grants. The facility will include three buildings serving as agricultural ecosystems with concrete floors and complete environment controls, to produce cannabis and other herbs, along with storage, packaging and medical research space. The first structure will be 600,000 sq ft on a 20-acre plot, to be completed in nine months. The second and third buildings will be erected on separate 50-acre plots and take 18 months to build. OREGON The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is planning to renovate and seismically retrofit the Veterans Administration Hospital in Portland. The project is valued between $250 million and $500 million. WISCONSIN The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District is planning to carry out the Kinnickinnic River Watershed improvement project. The project entails widening the channel corridor from 60 ft to 200 ft to improve the passage of flood flows, as well as replacing over 4,000 ft of concrete channel lining with a more naturalized channel between South 6th Street and South 16th Street. Requirements include the acquisition and removal of 83 homes, and modifications to city bridges and utilities. Construction is expected to start in June 2027 and be completed by July 2030. IDAHO and WYOMING Silver Star Communications has begun constructing a fiber optic cable system in the Swan and Teton valleys in Idaho and Star Valley in Wyoming. PENNSYLVANIA Bancroft Construction Co. has begun a 17-acre expansion and renovation of Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square. The work includes a new 32,000-sq-ft West Conservatory, reconstruction of Cascade Garden, a new outdoor Bonsai Courtyard, Waterlily Court enhancements, a new restaurant and private event space, renovating and expanding the public administration building with new state-of-the-art classrooms and library, virtual learning studios and staff offices, and a restoration of Orchid House. TEXAS Chevron Phillips Chemical has awarded an engineering and construction contract to S&B Engineers and Constructors to build the company’s second U.S. unit to produce on-purpose 1-hexene, in Old Ocean, near the company’s Sweeny facility. The new unit will produce up to 266,000 metric tons per year of 1-hexene, a critical component in high-performance polyethylene. Construction will get underway during the third quarter of 2021, with project startup expected in 2023. The contract amount was not disclosed. NEW JERSEY 8/25 The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking bidders to carry out the Sandy Hook Barnegat Inlet beach erosion-control project. The fiscal year 2021 renourishment project plan is to place 1.5 to 2 million cu yd of beach fill with a berm at elevation of 9.3-plus ft between the towns of Elberon and Manasquan. KENTUCKY 11/15 The Kentucky Dept. of Transportation is seeking design-build bidders to carry out Section 1 of the Interstate 69 Ohio River Crossing in Henderson. The project includes upgrades to a 2.4-mile portion of the existing U.S. Route 41 from Kentucky Route 425 to the U.S. Route 41 bridge over the CSX railroad bridge north of KY 351. The highway will be redesignated as I-69, including reconstruction of the KY 351 interchange, removal of the KY 2084 interchange and ramp improvements at the Audubon Parkway. Work also includes construction of a 2.9-mile, newly aligned section of I-69 from the CSX railroad bridge north of KY 351. The project is valued at $180 million.
