Domestic AEC mergers and acquisitions up over same period in 2011

Morrissey Goodale LLC tracked seven domestic deals and three international transactions for the week, bringing the total year-to-date deal count in the United States to 178, up 2% from the same period in 2011.

AEC management consulting and research firm Morrissey Goodale LLC reports today that it has tracked seven domestic deals and three international transactions for the week, bringing the total year-to-date deal count in the United States to 178, up 2% over the 174 tracked through the same period in 2011. Including the U.S., the total global deal count is now 311, down 6% from the 331 tracked through the same period last year.

The reported mergers and acquisitions include:

Design firm Stantec (Edmonton, Alberta) acquired the assets of Landmark Survey and Mapping, Washington, Penn., a 24-person survey and mapping firm specializing in oil and gas pipelines and the power market.

Engineering firm Thornton Tomasetti (New York) acquired Simon & Associates (San Francisco), a green building and sustainability consulting firm featuring a diverse client base of nonprofit organizations, government agencies, developers, architects, and contractors.

Trinity Consultants (Dallas), which works in international environmental consulting and specializes in industrial air quality issues, acquired SafeBridge Consultants (Mountain View, Calif.), a leader in environmental health and safety, toxicology, and industrial hygiene for the global pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and fine chemicals industries.

Full-service architecture, design, and engineering firm Clark Patterson Lee (Rochester, N.Y.) acquired K-12 and higher education designer Habiterra Architecture and Landscape Architecture (Jamestown, N.Y.).

MEP and comprehensive facilities design firm Henderson Engineers (Kansas City, Mo.) acquired eight-person acoustic and audio visual design firm Acoustical Design Group (Kansas City, Mo.). ADG employees will align with Collective Tech, a division of HEI, and the division will move forward as Collective Tech/ADG.

Architects TETER (Fresno, Calif.) merged with multidisciplinary AEC firm Canby Architectural Studios (Visalia, Calif.) to form a full-service design and engineering shop for both public and private builders.

Comprehensive surveying firm Continental Surveying Services (Ritchfield, Wis.) acquired Interline Survey Service (Greenfield, Wis.).

International infrastructure and environmental services consultant Cardo Ltd. (Brisbane, Australia) announced it has agreed to acquire 400-person Caminosca (Quito, Ecuador), one of the largest engineering consulting firms in Ecuador. The acquisition is subject to regulatory approvals in Ecuador and expected to be finalized in January 2013.

Global renewable energy and risk management experts DNV (Oslo, Norway) signed an agreement to merge with GL Group (Hamburg, Germany), a global classification, verification, and engineering consulting services firm to the maritime, renewables, and oil and gas industries. The new entity, DNV GL Group, will be one of the world’s leading ship classification societies and risk experts in the oil and gas, renewable energy and power sectors.

Engineering and design consultant Ramboll Group (Copenhagen, Denmark) acquired IMS Ingenieurgesellschaft (Hamburg, Germany), a 57-person offshore wind consultancy. +
