Zillow’s list of the most popular cities of 2022 reveals a shift from West Coast homebuying to growing demand in the Midwest, where buyers are finding robust markets with more affordable home values. Topping the list of this year’s most popular markets is Prairie Village, Kan., an upscale suburban community just outside of downtown Kansas City.
The most popular large city on Zillow’s 2022 list is Grand Rapids, Mich., home to a booming local economy with a wide selection of breweries and a typical home value of just $261,178, Zillow reports.
The most popular places on Zillow reflect a couple of trends we’ve been seeing over the past year. Where last year’s list was dominated by cities an hour or more away from the nearest major metro, this year’s top cities are closer to major metros, potentially offering a shorter commute for residents who are transitioning from fully remote work to hybrid arrangements.
