The Hilda L. Solis Care First Village (HSCFV), a new component-based model for interim housing, has completed construction in Downtown Los Angeles. The project met a highly aggressive schedule while also meeting the individual and social needs of the residents.
The housing project utilized three different modular components, including repurposed shipping crates, prefabricated modular units, and mobile units. Forgoing the bunk style multi-bed setup typical of shelters, residents at HSCFV will have their own unit with a private bath. Units were also built with their own heating and ventilation systems to mitigate the spread of COVID. The project includes a dog park so residents can bring their dogs with them to the facility.

To help prepare individuals for future work opportunities in the restaurant industry, the licensed supportive services manager for HSCFV is planning to partner with Homeboy Industries to provide kitchen services training for their residents.
NAC Architecture designed the project with Bernards serving as the builder. The HSCFV opened to residents on April 12th and reached full occupancy in May.
