Louisiana’s future gas taxes will be dedicated solely to transportation maintenance under a constitutional amendment approved by voters on Oct. 14. The amendment, which received 53% of the vote, creates a “construction subfund” in the state’s Transportation Trust Fund, dedicated solely to the “delivery, construction and maintenance of transportation and capital transit infrastructure projects.” Although no increases to state fuel taxes are being considered, any new revenue would be directed to the subfund and safeguarded from other uses.
