To expand its North Texas office, an investment management firm selected two floors within a 12-story building at Weir’s Plaza, a newly constructed Class AA mixed-use development. The 47,850-sq-ft space features a fitness center, locker rooms, spacious offices and an open office concept with high-end millwork throughout.

On the building’s seventh level, the floor had to be elevated to minimize disruptions to areas above and below. Strategically placed springs throughout the floor served as a foundation of sorts for the concrete slab. After curing, each individual spring could be adjusted to elevate the floor and alleviate sound transmission through the floors.

To get concrete up seven flights, it was originally going to be brought up through freight elevators. But with the odds of navigating simultaneous construction efforts across multiple floors and only two available freight elevators, along with the possible risk of concrete freezing over, the team decided to pump concrete through a window on the seventh floor to complete work in one continuous placement.

To streamline coordination across the entire project, a mobile app kept everyone in sync.

Each trade had a specific time frame during which they could transport materials, ensuring an organized workflow.

Construction ended within budget and on time in September 2022.
