Arizona The Tucson Airport Authority is currently evaluating statements of qualification from general contractors for an airfield safety enhancement project. The project consists of demolishing existing Runway 11R/29L (8,408 ft long x 75 ft wide) and associated taxiways; constructing a full length parallel runway (10,996 ft long x 150 ft wide); constructing a new full length centerline parallel taxiway (11,200 ft long x 75 ft wide); constructing a new outboard parallel taxiway (8,000 ft long x 75 ft wide); and constructing supporting connector taxiways between Runway 11R/29L. Oregon Kiewit Infrastructure West Co., the construction manager, is currently evaluating subcontractor bids for the raw water facilities expansion to the Willamette River Water Treatment Plant in Wilsonville. The project entails installing new vertical turbine pumps, motors and variable frequency drives for flow control at reduced power consumption, water surge tanks and water intake screen replacement; raw water pipeline at the water treatment plant; and raw water pipeline trenchless crossing at Arrowhead Creek. Texas The Sabine Neches Navigation District is planning to improve the Sabine-Neches Waterway, a Y-shaped set of interlocking river channels and canals that extend from the Gulf of Mexico, past Port Arthur, to Beaumont and Orange, Texas. The project entails deepening the waterway by 8 ft and extending the channel 13 miles further into the Gulf of Mexico. Additional widening of Taylor Bayou Channel and existing turning and anchorage basins will enhance the safety of vessels transiting the waterway. The dredged material will be relocated to subsiding marshland in the area, returning 2,700 acres of wetlands to its natural state. The projected cost is $1.27 billion. Virginia The Arlington County Dept. of Environmental Services is planning to make utility undergrounding and streetscape improvements along Columbia Pike, between South Wakefield Street and South Oakland Street. The undergrounding work will involve replacing aging and leak-prone water and sewer pipes and burying existing overhead utilities. The streetscape improvements will include wider sidewalks, new street lights, upgraded traffic signals and planting street trees. Construction is expected to start in the fall of 2020. The work involves hot-mix asphalt reconstruction, earthwork, guardrail and pavement markings, bridge reconstruction with steel plate girder and 48-in. x 49-in. concrete bulb-tee beams, cofferdams, piles, lightweight fill and approach work.
