The Boeing Co. selected a joint venture of PARIC Corp. and Barton Malow as the contractor for a more-than 1-million-sq-ft aircraft facility expansion near St. Louis Lambert International Airport, the contractors announced Oct. 24. The team beat more than two-dozen bidders for the work, the contractors say.

A spokesperson for the joint venture could not immediately say the price of the contract, but Boeing is planning a $1.8-billion advanced aerospace manufacturing facility adjacent to the airport, according to county records.

The JV team also includes contractors Arch Key/Sachs, icon Mechanical, Murphy Mechanical and PayneCrest Electric, plus geotechnical engineering firm Shannon & Wilson. Industrial Project Innovation is the owner’s representative and Jacobs is providing engineering services.

Preconstruction planning is underway and construction is expected to start early next year, Mike Rallo Jr., president of St. Louis-based PARIC, said in a statement. Construction is expected to last about five years, a spokesperson for the JV says.

In August, the St. Louis Airport Commission approved leasing to Boeing two tracts adjacent to the airport totaling 158 acres. The site includes a former McDonnell Douglas manufacturing plant. Officials also approved an option allowing Boeing to lease 28 additional acres.

Boeing did not immediately respond to inquiries about the project.

PARIC and Barton Malow also have partnered on the $232-million University of Missouri Health Care children’s hospital project, which is scheduled for completion next summer.
