Georgia

Amtrak has begun design on its $6-billion to $9-billion Sunbelt-Atlantic Connector, a high-speed rail line linking Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (HJAIA) to Chattanooga, Tenn. The 120-mile high-speed rail passenger line will follow Interstate 75 to connect the east side of HJAIA to a proposed station in downtown Chattanooga along a 1,000-ft corridor and include eight stops, including HJAIA, downtown Atlanta, Cartersville, Dalton, Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport and downtown Chattanooga. The city of Chattanooga has approved the program application. The project schedule is still being determined, as is the contract method. Florida

BluePearl Veterinary Partners is readying design on the $1.1-billion Ybor Harbor Channel Waterfront Development, featuring a dock, apartments, condominiums and office and retail space in Tampa. With zoning approvals in hand, developers are targeting a December start date for construction of 20 buildings on 33 acres, including 500,000 sq ft of office space, 800 hotel rooms, 150,000 sq ft of retail space and up to 4,750 residential units. Buildings will be from one to four-plus stories. The project will include a swimming pool, miscellaneous recreational facilities and a dock/pier. South Carolina

Construction is underway for the $1.75-billion Redwood Materials Battery Recycling facility in Ridgeville’s Camp Hall Commerce Park. Owner Redwood Materials began construction in February on the design-bid-build project, which includes seven one-story structural steel buildings for a total 2.5 million sq ft on a 600-acre campus. The 100% electric facility will produce enough anode and cathode material for 100 gigawatt-hours of battery cell production or enough for 1 million electric vehicles each year. With $1.75 billion constituting a hard construction estimate only, the entire investment is reportedly $3.5 billion from owner Redwood Materials. Florida

Florida East Coast Realty is planning a $1-billion design-bid-build project. One Bayfront Plaza Mixed-Use Tower will be located on the west side of Biscayne Boulevard in Miami between SE 1st St. and SE 2nd St. The project has been approved, and demolition of an existing 19-story building is planned in the next month or two with construction expected to begin in late 2024 or early 2025. The 92-story building will total more than 2 million sq ft on 3.35 acres and include 1,361 apartments on floors 35-92, a 16th floor swimming pool and amenity deck, 200 hotel rooms on floors 3-15, a 14th floor sky lobby with swimming pool, ballroom and restaurant/bar as well as 534,379 sq ft of office space. Lower levels will include 27,500 sq ft of exhibit space and a parking garage for 2,117 vehicles.
