If a business makes environmental claims in its ads or on its products or in its building, the Federal government offers guidance through the FTC’s Green Guides. However, the current Green Guides do not include guidance on the term “organic.”. Of course, the Green Guides’ general principles apply to all environmental claims.

Montgomery County, Maryland has proposed adopting the International Green Construction Code 2012. Many hundreds of LEED projects have been registered in Montgomery County, putting the county near the very top of the list for green construction in the U.S. the alternative compliance path built into the green code.

On September 28, 2016, the County Executive of Montgomery County, Maryland submitted Executive Regulation 21-15, which adopts the International Green Construction Code 2012, to the County Council. If the Council does not approve or disapprove the proposed IgCC within 60 days after receiving it, the green code is automatically approved.
