In the more than 4,400 code adopting jurisdictions across the country only the town of Gaithersburg , Maryland has adopted the 2018 IgCC. most major projects will pursue NGBS certification) and avoid the 2018 IgCC until there is some experience with this green code. In the realm of green building this is a big deal.

A package of local government bills introduced on January 29th aim to ensure that Montgomery County, Maryland remains at the sustainability forefront. Bill 3-14 would require newly constructed buildings of 10,000 square feet or more or extensively modified buildings to achieve a Silver certification in the appropriate LEED rating system.

On September 28, 2016, the County Executive of Montgomery County, Maryland submitted Executive Regulation 21-15, which adopts the International Green Construction Code 2012, to the County Council. If the Council does not approve or disapprove the proposed IgCC within 60 days after receiving it, the green code is automatically approved.
