One of the critical prescribed fire tests within the IBC for exterior wall assemblies is the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 285, Standard Fire Test Method for Evaluation of Fire Propagation Characteristics of Exterior Wall Assemblies Containing Combustible Components. Type V construction does not require NFPA 285 testing.
