I get regular updates through my FB page on how the big event of The Hong Kong Institute of Building Information Modelling (HKIBIM) planned for the 13 th of December is shaping up. There is one organisation visibly missing from the list (as published so far) of corporate sponsors and it is, Autodesk. Autodesk has sewn up the HK market.

When Autodesk decided to buy Revit Technology Corporation they confused many of their own customers who, until then, were using AutoCAD or Architectural Desktop (aka ADT, now AutoCAD Architecture aka ACA). I think Autodesk has a curious relationship with its customers. It is NOT necessary to use AutoCAD if you use Revit.

Last night I was able to download and install Building Design Suite 2017 from my Autodesk subscription account. Autodesk has their own interpretation of what are big new features and sometimes I agree. Autodesk released Revit 2016 R2 like they did with Revit 2015 the year before. Some food for thought: Could it (read that as "it will") be better to let the walls be modeled as they will be built (with dead spaces in between), rather than using in-place walls that simply mimic old methodologies, like CAD or Hand drawn lines filled with poche or hatching? It is more suited to a model that is about graphics.
