In 2014, 3,179 people were killed and 431,000 people were injured because of a distraction-related accident, with texting being the major cause of distraction. Texting and driving makes vehicle accidents 23 times more likely to occur. Virgin Islands had prohibited all drivers from using hand-held cell phones while driving.
