The Corridor is home to a Next Michigan Development Corporation (NMDC), a state designation from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. Two Class 1 and one local railroad are important parts of the transportation system.

Each crane weighs 1,550 tons and is fully electric so it emits no diesel emissions. The Port currently has service by two Class I railroads, Norfolk Southern and CSX—both offer double-stack service to critical manufacturing and population centers. They are fully electrical and powered by 13.2kV with provisions for back-up diesel power.
