So he marched down to the carpenters’ union hall and applied as an apprentice, ready to learn a trade and return to his construction roots. He cut his teeth as a carpenter for The Korte Company on an apartment complex in Greenville, Illinois and a Knights of Columbus hall in Highland, Illinois. None of it held Tom’s interest.
