The Midwest Inland Port is served by a Foreign Trade Zone and provides local Customs Clearing, features that are being enhanced to provide a more robust set of service offerings. The Santa Teresa and Columbus ports-of-entry have overweight cargo zones with a six-mile radius for trucks carrying a reducible load up to 96,000 lbs.

Construction officially started on the $600-million facility in April 2013 and aircraft assembly is planned to begin in 2015, with a targeted 2016 delivery of its first A320 jetliner.
