In December 2015, DOT announced the Smart City Challenge, a competition designed to help one city develop a fully-integrated transportation network using data and technology to connect communities and move people and goods more efficiently. NXP, Autodesk, and Mobileye to help execute its Smart City Plan.

DOT received such a huge response to its call for applications—78 cities entered the contest—that it expanded the number of finalists from five to seven. ” The winning city will be announced in June, but we’ve taken a peek at some of the finalists’ applications. DOT has encouraged the finalists to “think big.”
