The principal and interest on the bonds are paid solely from the funds derived from leasing or selling the facilities to the user company. The credit is available to all types of business entities, including: S corporations, C corporations, limited liability companies (LLCs), partnerships, trust and sole proprietorships.

It is a credit of five percent of the capital costs of a qualifying project, to be applied to the Alabama income tax liability or financial institution excise tax generated by the project income, each year for 20 years. The credit is 20 percent of the actual costs limited to the employer’s income tax liability.

In 2011, Emerson leased 18,000 square feet of space at the Sawgrass International Corporate Park with the option for an additional 9,500 square feet. Michigan was chosen over competing sites in Iowa and Mexico. The expansion made room for 20 new employees, which brought its total employment in Sunrise to more than 70.
