As a contractor, the thought of an OSHA inspection and possible violations probably makes you a little nervous. In 2016, OSHA increased its penalties for the first time since 1990. One of the most significant OSHA actions of 2016 was issuing guidance on drug testing, injury reporting and safety incentive programs. Make clear that drug and alcohol testing will be required after any accident or safety-related incident (such as “near miss” incidents), regardless of whether an injury has occurred.
