While lapping up the free Christmas atmosphere of one of the better venues of downtown Abu Dhabi, I was introduced to the ‘Next Generation BIM 360 Platform’ of Autodesk, designed to connect the Entire construction process into a seamless ‘something’. And BIM is going on the back seat big time. Nor is it terribly new.

Search for BIM in AEC – and you’ll find the concept “paper based” mentioned often as the problem that needs to be overcome to DO BIM; I disagree. Paper based’ for me, means designing our outputs to suit the format, size of the medium and that is not bad on its own. Look up my post on the PictureBook Documenting.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) can be a valuable tool in the hands of anyone who works in construction. That’s why, it’s critical for all construction agents to be aware of the different BIM maturity levels. Before we go further with that, it would really be useful to try to define what BIM actually means.
