PDF as a digital file-format is generally frowned upon by those in charge of creation and management of project information within the AEC industry. Some sophisticated Cloud Document Management systems claim to have solved the issue by focusing on the even bigger issue with PDFs that is managing the quantities they tend to be coming in.

I believe that hands-on manipulating of project information by all project participants is the key to achieving any meaningful improvement of the AEC industry operating within the post-gambling-era. So, those that claim BIM to be in a pretty good shape and maturing according to preset programs across the board, are likely to have some vested interest in making it look better than it really is. Internet was in its very early stage and emails still clunky, but the ArchiCAD worldwide support group moderated by Djordje Grujic was legendary.

My contributions to my own blogs had been mooted to an almost full silence and I never upgraded to ArchiCAD 17, though I expect the launch of 18 to be soon. I now got myself a job that has nothing to do with BIM. I am staying away from most online or real-life BIM interest groups.

In spite of the huge amount of money sloshing within the construction field globally, it is not a ‘cool career choice’ and consequently not the ‘sharpest’ of industries. Not only will this model grow into a global industry success, it would make it cool for young and old too! 10%, 20%, 90%? The emphasis is on the ‘real’.
