structures rarely made sense to people that happily documented everything in black on white. Still, that has not deterred me to consistently use the colour ‘red’ on my construction models as a warning sign, highlighting that an element is either under-defined or wrongly defined by the design consultants or others in charge of it.

In traditional documentation we would ‘say it once, and in the right place’, however with BIM, we want to ‘author it once, and in the right place, to be able to report it many times’ Figure 1: Appropriate location of information. I consider myself to be a model-based construction information practitioner (shortened to a ‘BIM- meddler’) rather than an ‘expert’ or even ‘specialist’ Tuesday, April 10, 2012. My personal preference is to use a data schema (format) to document this so it become measurable over time. ► 2011.

We have one model that was started in Revit before we knew any of the limitations of Revit. Some food for thought: Could it (read that as "it will") be better to let the walls be modeled as they will be built (with dead spaces in between), rather than using in-place walls that simply mimic old methodologies, like CAD or Hand drawn lines filled with poche or hatching? It is more suited to a model that is about graphics.

In an Architectural Record article " Getting on Board with Building Information Modeling " Larry Flynn describes a Data Manager as someone "responsible for coordinating the various computer files and models that are integrated into a BIM." In our office Data Managers are starting to inspect models for proper construction.

you can draw a simple building and link in a simple building (by shared coordinates) and move these two icons around a bit (clipped and unclipped) to see how the two models react or. It's a bit of a pity that these things do not seem to be so wll documented in the helpfiles. ArchiCAD vs Revit. Clipping the Survey Point.
