The structural engineer sizes the concrete column; the architect places it in the space. There is a code on the structural drawing that can be tracked to the schedule and the dimensions are noted. They both are confident to be following well established building-documenting practices.

And I mean, everything, getting IFC drawings, as-builts, shop-drawings, or magical, know it all 3-7D (+) models. That wall will then (possibly by a structural engineer) chopped into pieces and the sizes determined. That sentence I just wrote, is a mouthful, but do read it again. So, imagine a detail.

In a sense, because BIM contains more information that is structured more efficiently than traditional product like CAD files, spreadsheets and drawings. Editable drawings from the BIM model (e.g. CAD files). The way to deal with inappropriate use is to define uses that are permitted. LOSS OF CONTROL.

Draw the concept so it is easy to put on paper, on a printed sheet. Doesn't matter if it is angled or new fangled, just orient it so it is "easy" to draw. Let's assume you decide to hire a structural engineer (and MEP) and they use Revit too. If you never deal with site you are all good to go.
