A hole in the main spillway measuring 250 feet long by 170 feet wide and 50 feet deep emerged last week. At that time officials said the spillway was secure but around 3 p.m. Sunday, authorities learned that the dam’s emergency spillway was also eroding and threatened to flood the surrounding area.

February has been a productive month for Oroville Dam's main spillway reconstruction. As the planned May 1 start date for the second phase get closer, prep work is readying the site. The $500 million project, headed by Kiewit Construction, has been stabilized so that heavy winter rains would not further degrade it over the winter.
