Development of the 2018 version of the National Green Building Standard (NGBS) is now underway. The 2018 version of the NGBS will be the fourth iteration of this national residential standard. Participating in this development process is hugely significant because as of this date there are 98,120 NGBS Green Certified Homes!

2018 will be a watershed year in the course of green building standards, codes and rating systems. IgCC, ICC 700, Green Globes and. Earlier versions of these green building standards, codes and rating systems were largely written in silos by partisans. In 2018 there will be new versions of LEED, ASHARE 189.1, and abroad.

Green building will remain mandatory for new construction in Montgomery County, Maryland and effective December 1, 2017, the International Green Construction Code 2012 will be a permitted alternative. On September 19, 2017, the County Council in Montgomery County enacted Bill 19-17 repealing the existing green building law.

The 2018 International Green Construction Code was released on November 8, 2018 but more than a year later, it has not been adopted anywhere. Many code officials have concluded the 2018 IgCC is not a good building code, green or otherwise. for the Design of High Performance Green Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings.
