DebunkTheBIM: How well can you tell? (?If the drawings in front-of.

DebunkTheBIM

I am a manager of construction information, tools and people. How well can you tell? (…If the drawings in front-of you have been produced via 2D or 3D methods?). I’m often asked: have the documents been coordinated? The moment you are exposed to drawings (hard or soft copies) you become extremely vulnerable to them.

I’m onto some rose-coloured BIM issues…and here is a tip for ArchiCAD users as a bonus

DebunkTheBIM

So let’s talk BIM, the rosy, and pink, and lemon-yellow and forest-green… For a long time I’ve been a strong advocate of proactively using colours in construction information management, often provoking condescending comments from ‘architects that wear only black’. Model based communication supports this idea splendidly.

PDFs and BIM: A trilogy of posts investigating what the PDF format’s role may be in strategies transitioning the industry to BIM? First part: PDFs within current AEC – Important yet neglected?

DebunkTheBIM

PDF as a digital file-format is generally frowned upon by those in charge of creation and management of project information within the AEC industry. Some sophisticated Cloud Document Management systems claim to have solved the issue by focusing on the even bigger issue with PDFs that is managing the quantities they tend to be coming in.

Here is why Autodesk’s monopoly over the Global AEC is not good, not even for Autodesk:

DebunkTheBIM

It started off with CAD, then, when BIM was getting strong enough to stay – it extended over almost anything to do with Construction Information Management. Almost, I state – as the non-graphical data management is still somewhat outside its claws, i.e. project, people and time document management.

Same, same but different – My mother is not getting paperfreeconstruction, the concept.

DebunkTheBIM

Launching the ‘paperfree’ movement, I managed to unsettle her. I documented full houses in 3D ArchiCAD 20 years ago in our design studio, while she looked after our children. Keep doing the same things as always (draw, model, write, read, sketch…) just don’t use the paper. Mark up drawings on screen? Or a tablet.

DebunkTheBIM: Design managers working in the AEC: specify what.

DebunkTheBIM

I am a manager of construction information, tools and people. Design managers working in the AEC: specify what ‘type’ are you! Are you primarily concerned with managing the people on the project or managing the project information? Reconstructing drawing-sets and the case of the 'G. DebunkTheBIM.

DebunkTheBIM: Open BIM? Are we living on the same planet.

DebunkTheBIM

I am a manager of construction information, tools and people. Archicad and Tekla are old enough to know this. My everyday work IFC is working well but I'm using ArchiCAD and engineer is using Tekla Structure. The IFC translation user interface in Revit is poorly documented and poorly presented.
