This wall is the sum of two 9 tall extruded shapes in plan view. Plus in-place families detract from performance of the team, model and file. Lets say a box that in 3d is orange, in elevation is orange and in plan is white ? When you model your geometry give it a material called "Variable" or some other material name that is not used in your project file. In the material properties change your surface pattern to Solid fill[Drafting] and select a default color.

Your post on pads has come at an opportune time for me, have you come across a situation where toposurface sub regions & pads appear in plan views where the site is cut. These sub regions and pads are on a higher level than the plan view cut height and cut earth should be what is seen. ArchiCAD vs Revit. Marathon Drafting.
