So it is with great pride that I announce the completion of our most successful Chicago design build office construction job to date – the new headquarters of Englewood Construction! for what we considered the ultimate office tenant renovation project. The work stations from our old office were fine, so we re-used those.

Case in point, a developer once asked us to price out a retail-to-restaurant conversion on the first floor of a Chicago high rise. Once we budgeted out the cost of installing black iron as well as other improvements to power and cooling systems, the developer decided it was not realistic to convert the space.

Englewood Construction is in the midst of two adaptive reuse projects right now – one a former meatpacking facility in Chicago that we’re updating for office, retail or restaurant use, and the other a former convent we’ll be converting into a senior living community. That was certainly the case with our Englewood office.

While there are three sides to every story, recent commercial construction news stories like this one from the Chicago Tribune , “Construction firm caught in contract probe” , really burn me up. The best Chicago construction firms play by the rules and do business above board. I don’t mean to come off as preachy, I’m just mad.

It doesn’t matter what kind of new shopping center construction you desire–whether it is a Power Center, a Lifestyle Center, or a strip mall in a high-traffic infill location–nothing will be built unless the numbers make sense for the commercial construction budget.
