The structural engineer sizes the concrete column; the architect places it in the space. There is a code on the structural drawing that can be tracked to the schedule and the dimensions are noted. They both are confident to be following well established building-documenting practices.

For some reason BIM authors (architects, engineers, etc) think that because they create the initial BIM information they have the right to full control and to charge for the BIM model throughout the life of the building. The architect schedules doors, the hardware supplier adds to that schedule, they don’t create their own.
