At a time when solar panels are de riguere a recent decision by a Maryland appellate court limiting the authority of local governments to regulate the location and specifics of construction of a solar farm has broad implications far beyond this case. The Washington County Board of Zoning Appeals granted the relief requested.

Electric utility based incentives that support energy efficiency, including LEED certification, are increasing in number across the U.S. The new electric utility incentive is available for construction of a new commercial facility that is LEED certified from between $2,000 and $10,000.

The General Services Administration’s (GSA) Mid-Atlantic Region and the Social Security Administration (SSA) are collaborating to design and construct the SSA’s new National Support Center in Urbana, MD. The existing computer center was constructed in 1979 and the infrastructure systems are approaching the end of their useful lives.
