Ive been teaching our office how to use Revit Architecture. Once the principals saw the data loss and loss of efficiency from such workarounds they got over the look of the documents. especially as documents became a secondary deliverable to the coordinated BIM. Im a Revit Beginner with an architectural office in Santa Barbara.

Tom Gay manages worldwide CAD and GIS services, site plan documentation and engineering document management services for The Factory Mutual Insurance Company (FM Global). This has included “CAD” using PEAC, GDS, MicroGDS, AutoCAD, MicroStation, SketchUp, ArchiCAD and “Raster” using Cadcore/Hitachi PrEditor, ScanGraphics, Scan2CAD, etc.

Revit, Archicad et al… are NOT BIM, but rather 3D visualization components of BIM. Visual estimating/automatic quantity take off ( QTO), and collaborative contract/project/document management, are all in one application. BIM is the life-cycle management of the built environment supported by digital technology.
