In theory the three different types may be equally effective, practice shows, those that ignore the information in favour of ‘just pushing the people’ (or groups of people like consultants, contractors or anyone in the AEC food-chain) end up with the ‘vocal cord’ as their only tool available. Once the principals saw the data loss and loss of efficiency from such workarounds they got over the look of the documents. especially as documents became a secondary deliverable to the coordinated BIM. Visual estimating/automatic quantity take off ( QTO), and collaborative contract/project/document management, are all in one application. BIM is the life-cycle management of the built environment supported by digital technology.
