Let me just mention a few basic points that come to mind: · For example the work of prof Mark Burry: he moved to Melbourne in the mid 1990s – by then a visible and globally respected BIM figure. See, once upon a time, some decade or so ago – BIM (or VC) and Graphisoft (with ArchiCAD) were doing very well in Australia (and New Zealand)!

Anyhow, I posted a comment a couple of days ago with regards to the idea that RIBA may be advising its members to favour a particular make of BIM software ahead of some others.

‘What is BIM?’ – is probably the most off-putting intro question to anyone listening to a BIM presentation that a speaker can pull up, yet it comes up time after time at BIM conferences and lectures. I used to like the word ‘approach’ for it, being a ‘language’, ‘a set of tools and processes’.

Rather than having the earth cut (and filled) vertically 90 degrees as shown on picture 1 (done in Revit), different soils require those cuts (and fills) to be performed at an angle (that often depends on the type of soil) like shown on picture 2 (done in ArchiCAD); They went away, they researched, they said: NO.

Looking back at my BIM history, I now see that I made the same mistakes as many others do: “We want to believe in the power of technology to solve all of our problems”. An unfair label, I believe.
