BIM is the life-cycle management of the built environment supported by digital technology. That said, BIM has been preoccupied with 3D visualization to the extent that many/most feel that Revit, Archicad, et al are all that’s needed to implement BIM.

The technical people that are in need of using PDF’s within their CAD environments tend to turn them into DXFs (often ending up with zillions of fuzzy sub-elements), JPEGS or to lay them under their digital drawings. These can be placed in plans/elevations/sections making them an excellent base for either 2D or 3D based work.

I documented full houses in 3D ArchiCAD 20 years ago in our design studio, while she looked after our children. good for the environment too, but my major objective is different, here). Almost thirty years ago, I was first talking about computer modelling of buildings. Think before you print! Or a tablet.

These are 3D digital work environments where large numbers of PDF’s can be placed in for the purpose of reconstructing the physical environment they were originally created to describe.
