She has no idea what the ‘BIM’ acronym stands for exactly, but is closely associating it with all my professional ups and downs. Almost thirty years ago, I was first talking about computer modelling of buildings. I documented full houses in 3D ArchiCAD 20 years ago in our design studio, while she looked after our children.

Still, that has not deterred me to consistently use the colour ‘red’ on my construction models as a warning sign, highlighting that an element is either under-defined or wrongly defined by the design consultants or others in charge of it. Model based communication supports this idea splendidly.

This approach is somewhat surprising considering that in most contemporary construction contracts PDF’s as the digital representations of drawings have often higher standing than model files or even DWGs. It is being treated as something one puts up with until something better comes along.

The contrast of texture is a method that draws attention to a particular point or place of a design by the texture. Visual weight is the property that gives elements in a design an ability to draw attention. Whereas if an element has a high visual weight that means that this element has the probability of drawing eyes towards it.

We have one model that was started in Revit before we knew any of the limitations of Revit. To add to the complexity, the as-built drawings we had on file were not accurate to the true construction of the existing structure because the original architect had improvised the design during construction. Some food for thought: Could it (read that as "it will") be better to let the walls be modeled as they will be built (with dead spaces in between), rather than using in-place walls that simply mimic old methodologies, like CAD or Hand drawn lines filled with poche or hatching? It is more suited to a model that is about graphics.
