I’ve learned AutoCAD on DOS, in 3D with no mouse in the early 1990s. I owned professional licences of AutoCAD, Revit, Studio Max for many years. The 1980-s AutoCAD was a good product for its time and the AEC industry; It supported the thinking of the ‘old master builders’, thinking and working in 3D.

Digital Platform based Shop-drawing assessment Construction Information Management has been an interest of mine for a good 30 years. The various assessor engineers typically work with flat (2D) PDF or AutoCAD files, and consider individual sheets, marking them up or adding comments.

In AutoCAD you can add text to linetypes but youll notice that in Revit you cant. This workaround involves drawing a repeating detail line (with imported text) on top of a simple detail line. Type out the text you want in AutoCAD (at a height of say 6") and save as a DWG. Now draw a detail line in any view of your project.

The office I worked for didnt use Revit for developing working drawings but I do remember wishing that I could add text to linestyles (for phone, elec, gas, etc) and I remember having trouble understanding phases but I got a lot of help from users on Zoogdesign (now AUGI).
