It was meant to make it simple to alter the appearance of our model to be more in sync with what a structural engineer wants to see.

I was musing about a recent conversation where one guys position was that BIM is hype, unnecessary and worse really just being foisted upon our profession in a scheme to get more money from "us". It seems to me this notion of using Revit (BIM) and "us" isnt all that different. Meanwhile, autodesk provides dismal documentation.

In this image the massing has been created aligned with the "site" but weve realized that it would be easier to document if Project North were aligned along one building edge. As I wrote in my reply there, RTN is sleight of hand while RPN is really altering the entire model and related views to change orientation. Revit Lifeline.

Sure we benefit from the modelling effort in architecture and structure but we can still benefit from the effort without them. Why assume that there is no value in creating a model of the MEP scope of work even if the architect doesnt use Revit? Modeling a project reveals more than doing one in 2D. These divisions, while relevant to the architectural model, are ruining the possibilities of creating gbXML files without extensive work on the part of the engineer to remove the room separation lines, and then repair the damage done to the room names and numbers. Joe - in the examples he offered it isn't "poor" modeling.

The whole model is still there, just not visible, thatll provide some relief for performance sake. In my case Im interested in closing their worksets, "hiding" their elements globally until I need them again which is still "seeing" but not from a documentation standpoint.
