Can’t help myself thinking of it every time someone tells me, how going to BIM from CAD will come about (easily) just as moving from the drafting board to CAD happened in the past. Not necessarily a painless change but nonetheless, no big deal. I beg to differ.

One of the many stories we''ve heard that was meant to help us in our transition was how easily Revit worked with other CAD software''s data. since AutoCAD is a superior drafting tool it isn''t sensible to use Revit for basic drafting tasks". Once code exists we are always dealing with legacy decisions.

From Reference other View you can choose either drafting views (good for site/existing condition photos) or any view saved as a "rendering" (image) in the project. Of course, because its an elevation tag, it will carry the sheet/detail number references when you place your drafting or rendering view onto a sheet.

More Design less Draft Engineering data in the DWG is used as a graphical tool that speeds the design process and highlights trouble spots.

think of what happens in 2D CAD when each person decides to make their own layer for walls, now a project with a 6 person team, has 6 different layers for walls, ahhhhh!). Since we're dealing with detail components, I'm actually completely OK with having their graphic appearance be completly unmanaged.
